Counselling & Psychotherapy

Introduction

Life can be great but often we are slowed down by its complications. All of us experience difficulties and challenges in our lives. Often, we can address them on our own or with the help of friends. However, there are times when counselling or psychotherapy can be most helpful.

An initial consultation will establish what kind of treatment is most suitable for you. Referrals can be made.

I specialise in short term counselling and psychotherapy working issues such as:
• Depression
• Stress
• Anxiety
• Bereavement
• Relationships
• Low Self Esteem
• Trauma
• Phobia
• Anger

I practice Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person Centred Counselling, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, often integrated within the context and delivery of Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

therapy I offer a combination of “Talk Therapies” that are designed to help you with your psychological issues. I also believe in a mind-body connection so that improvement in our psychological well-being translates into physical vitality, which is why I choose to combine my skills such as Acupuncture, psychological approaches such as Counselling & Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Energy Psychology techniques to offer an overall wholistic treatment.

Alternatively, you may not be suffering specifically from any of the above, but you are motivated to improve your life - to enjoy things more, or to work at removing barriers to fulfilling your potential...

If this sounds like you, take a look at Life Coaching for an explanation of how it works and how you can benefit today!

What is the difference?

One can divide the human mind into those things that we know about and those of which we are not aware. We refer to the things we know about or have an awareness of, as belonging to the 'Conscious Mind'; whereas, the things we are not aware of, belong to the 'Unconscious Mind'. With this understanding in mind, counselling and psychotherapy can be loosely defined.

Counselling?

Counselling is a popular term for dealing with psychological problems through discussion and exploration. You are encouraged to talk about the feelings you have about yourself and your situation, and the counsellor helps you find ways to address them. This therapy is usually short-term. The main aim of counselling is to work with material already in conscious awareness. Therapists often make use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Person Centred Therapy principles.

Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy involves the therapist listening to your experiences, exploring connections between your present feelings and actions and the past events. Psychotherapy explores issues in greater depth and therefore usually takes longer. The main aim of psychotherapy is to bring unconscious material into the conscious mind, then work with it. It aims to help you understand more about yourself and your relationships with others. Therapists often make use of psychodynamic, existential, and psychoanalytically principles.

Individual Counselling/Psychotherapy

There are times when it can seem very hard to cope with life’s difficulties and challenges.
Such difficulties can include:
• Bereavement
• Persistent feelings of dissatisfaction
• Relationship problems
• Sexual concerns
• Work problems
• Loneliness, moodiness
• Sadness, depression, feelings of failure, stress or anxiety
• Problems with alcohol or drugs
• Disordered eating
• Fertility issues
• Problems with anger
• Feeling out of control
• Panic or free-floating anxiety
• The effects of abuse of any kind, past or present

Euphoria provides regular individual sessions with a professional therapist. In a secure and confidential setting you can explore your thoughts and feelings with your counsellor or psychotherapist. Each session lasts 50 minutes. The therapist works with you to make sense of long-standing patterns of thinking and behaviour, increase your understanding, confront destructive patterns and work towards beneficial change.
